I finally got my long weekend. Took Thursday and Friday off and had the two days. And even better, people left me the blank alone so I really did get four days of peace. It was just wonderful. I feel so refreshed.

I don't even remember everything. Just that there was a lot of peace. I didn't even really cook much. Though I did try a really good recipe I caught on one of the Cooks Illustrated tv shows for Cornell grilled chicken, which is done with a vinegar marinade. That struck me at first as a "oh really?" thing. But it's really quite excellent. We also used the weekend to finish up The Wire and Foyle's War, which made us sad as there simply are no more episodes, but was quite satisfying. Foyle feels like it has more life and we hope for another series or perhaps a spinoff. The Wire though feels like they closed it at the right time no matter how much I loved it.

The Nora-Monster was, for the most part, acting really wonderfully for most of the weekend. We had Janna's parents over one night for dinner. Sadly, our nice trip out with Nora went awry when we got to our destination where we were going to take out the stroller and take her for a walk when she finally conked out and napped. So instead we wandered around a bit driving. She's scootling all over the living room now. Not really crawling, but awfully close. I seem to have a rapport with her in terms of feeding. We also replaced her bucket baby seat with something that's good for a few years. Though with the way Massachusetts is going, I fully expect to her to take drivers ed from a booster seat.

Our old car, the Mazda Protege, is in the shop for inspection. We knew it had problems as the brake light was on and there was something wrong with the ABS, a feature I, at least, would prefer not to have in the first place. It's going to be almost a thousand dollars which is kind of a gulp, but we were expecting that. It's 11 years old with over 100k miles and we probably haven't put more than that into it in all that time. It has a lot of little things that we don't need to fix, but ought to be and these are all included, which should put it in good shape for the next few years. I've taken over driving it and I only go 7 miles each way to and from work and about half the time I ride the scooter. So it really makes no sense to buy a new car, no matter how hot the new Mazda 2 looks.
