Mar. 23rd, 2005 11:32 amSo let's see. How was SF. Trip was fine and contrary to predictions of K my name change didn't flag anything on the security and there were no rubber hoses in the soundproof room. There wasn't much comfort either, I retain my singular ability to pick completely full flights.
We got to our hotel around 11 and then wandered over to get some tasty noodles. God, can't cape get just one good noodle shop? I mean? Just one? Probably I should figure out how to make a broth that wonderful. I suspect it involves boiling things for days though. For the record, thin rice noodles with duck. So good.
After that we wandered over to our real reason for the trip, to see Lisa. We stopped in at Dr. Os office and said hi to Mira. Mary Lou wandered in. It was really fun. They were both complementary about my outcome and very friendly. However, this is where tragedy struck. Mira remembered Janna knitting and wanted to show her a scarf her mom had made for her and I went to show off my beautiful new multi-red scarf that Janna made for me... and it was gone! I'd lost it somewhere on the F or in the castro. Devastation! Janna decided to chock it up to a sacrifice and will make me another. But it really was gorgeous. It went perfectly with my jacket. And by the time she's done, I won't need a scarf.
We wandered up to Lisa's room. That was funny. We just waltz in and she sits up "what are you doing here!?" We laughed. She was glad to see us. And expressive as you could be with a football helmet on! Her energy was nothing short of inhuman. I was barely able to sit up or walk to the bathroom with help. She'd had a wander around the ward and was sitting up and animated. Absolutely incredible. It was a nice visit. We wore her out and went off on our way.
That night we went over to the Far East, which is a pretty good tourist oriented Chinese restaurant. You go for the decor. Think Lo Pan's temple in Big Trouble. Highly amusing. It's hard to choose in SF. The touristy restaurants are so much fun. And quite good. But then a block away you have the real stuff too. Sometimes way too real *laughs*
We popped back over to Davies the next morning and got to meet her friend Jan, who's really nice, and we all rode over to Cocoon in Mira's Jaguar Ambulance :) Amazed we all fit. We met the cocoonies and sat in the garden for a little bit (yes, Lisa has amazing recuperative powers!) Then the three of us left and got lunch (Orphan Andy's) and then we pushed her out the door of the train somewhere near Union Sq so she could do some shopping before heading home. We wandered down to the waterfront and did the Alcatraz by Night tour. It was actually a lot of fun. I never realized the place was quite as small as it was! The evening one is definitely the one to go to btw. The view of the city at night is absolutely amazing. We got some pictures, but I doubt if they came out. Click *2 seconds* click. I'm not that good at holding a camera stable.
Afterwards we went out to dinner. Yes, more touristy stuff. Stinking Rose. Huge crowd outside, but we walked right in. Just hit it at the right time and they had a table for 2, but nothing for 3 or 4. We got the garlic crab for two. It was amazing, cooked in a sort of garlic butter and cracked enough that we didn't make a mess of ourselves. Just a really nice evening.
I have almost no idea what we did on Sunday. I know we ate down at the waterfront. And I know it was delicious. And I know we stopped by cocoon. Other than that? Not a clue. Oh, we did some shopping in Noe! And had lunch at Noe Pizza! I got some really really pretty earrings at a little boutique. Unfortunately we didn't get together with N like we were planning to because she fell on her bike. We called her later and she babbled about coming back into the city, but she sounded really "off" and I knew that was just not a good idea at all.
Monday we finally stopped dodging the bullet and it rained. It was supposed to pour the entire weekend, but we'd been amazingly lucky. And worse, since we were leaving that night we had to check out, so no hotel room for a quick change into dry clothes and hot shower. Well it was fun anyway. Visited Lisa and had a nice chat with her and Anelka in the garden. Then we went out for lunch. More Bangkok noodles :) And wandered around the ferry building. We'd originally planned on eating there, but with the rain soup seemed like a good idea. Oh and spent way too much money at Lush. There's a surprise. By the time dinner came around, it was absolutely pouring so we dodged into the first Chinese restaurant we could see in Chinatown. It was good. Nothing exciting. But good.
And that was our trip to SF. We flew out at around midnight, our flight having been indirectly delayed by the rain. Total zombie girl the next day, but well well worth it.
