Well, the experiment is over. Vista remains completely unusable. LOTRO with the settings maxed would run smoothly under XP and take up roughly 2/3rds of my memory. Under Vista, it was a dog and completely maxed out the memory with the cache file going nuts.

I would kill for a 2008 version of XP with all the drivers and such on it. At least I have a CD with SP2 included, so it will actually see the entire hard drive and not just the first whatever hundred gigabytes.

Well it's a beautiful day in the neigborhood. Gorgeous blue skies. Clear as a bell. But the wind is something else. Huge gusts.

Work is work. My big install for the week looks like it's going really well. I'm feeling better overall. Still a little tired, but every day and in every way, etc. etc.

The weekend will be another restful one. Well mostly. Tonight is martinis and Top Chef. I think I'm going to make up a turkey breast this weekend. We've been in the mood for "roasted" but the last thing I need is the calories of a chicken or something.

The project for the weekend is to dismantle all the plugs on the TV/Stereo/DVR/DVD. Probably half the plugs terminate nowhere and I have some really dubious stuff going on--like a super cheap .99 cent kmart cable meant for L/R/Video being used as a composite video cable when I have a nice thick solid one sitting next to it doing nothing. O M G the dust though. It has accumulated there since 2001.

I got some feed back on my Vista issue about some issues it has with gaming. So I'll give it another try with superfetch turned off. Apparently it keeps memory full of cache stuff, which isn't good because games tend to inflate memory needs quickly. And that matches completely with the issues I had last night with stuttering when I hit a new area. Lotro tends to stutter as it is, but this was insane. We'll see. I'm like Mulder, I want to believe. Well ok, I don't really. But I really don't want to deal with finding a USB floppy drive and drivers to install the OS.
