kathygnome 1. At what age, if any, is it no longer appropriate for children to be naked in public (say, at a beach or wading pool)? Is your answer different for boys vs. girls?
That's hard. There's the perfect world where I think nudity is great. And then there's the one we live in where people are so messed up. I probably wouldn't do nudity for a child above 3 or 4. Between the pervs and the protectors of children, it's just an impractical thing.
2. At what age, if any, is it no longer appropriate for children to be naked in private (say, at home with their family)? Is your answer different for boys vs. girls?
I think it's more an issue of temperature, not age. Certainly it doesn't differ by gender.
3. At what age, if any, do you start to feel uncomfortable seeing (other people's) children naked? (*their* age, not your age)
About 65 or so unless they've exercised well for most of their lives. A lot younger if they have let themselves go terribly :-) I'm very naturist but I've never quite gotten that all bodies are attractive thing down. Some just aren't.
In all seriousness, I don't really get uncomfortable because I've seen enough of it. I have been made uncomfortable if I'm the only adult with nude kids because I'm afraid of being thought of as doing something inappropriate. (That would bother me far less now I guess than when I was male.) But it's not the nudity, it's the practicality.
4. At what age, if any, did you become aware of your own nudity? (i.e., at what age did you start to feel the need to have clothing on around other people)
I actually became aware of nudity at probably 6 or 7, but it was in the opposite side. I wanted to run around naked all the time. I had a really phobic upbringing tho. That wasn't on the menu.
5. Have you ever been naked in public as an adult (i.e., post-puberty)? What were (or what generally are, for those of you that barely manage to keep your clothes *on*) the circumstances?
I've been naked at enough Pagan festivals that I can't count them. Outside of a nudity postive space like that, I guess the last time was college when we went skinny dipping at Puffer's Pond. We got caught by the cops too. The poor guy was so sweet. He apologized that it was his job and asked us how the water was.
