Gaybashing Amendment

kathygnomeWell the gaybashing amendment failed. Thankfully. What should have happened, of course, is that it should never have existed and any politician that suggested enshrining bigotry in the constitution should have been forced to resign by popular opinion.
I understand Jon Stewart simply eviscerated Bill Bennett last night on the issue.
Bennett: Look, it's a debate about whether you think marriage is between a man and a women.
Stewart: I disagree, I think it's a debate about whether you think gay people are part of the human condition or just a random fetish.
That was just the opening shot. Apparently Mr. Stewart is capable of calling bullshit on an argument by, well, actually calling bullshit on it.
Was that particularly hard? Why can't the democrats stand up to these fascist bullies like that? Why can't the "real" media, even the supposedly "liberal" media say that?
I listened to someone yattering yesterday about how offended she was that by opposing equal marriage rights for gay people, she was being branded an anti-gay bigot. And the interviewer kept bobbleheading her. Hey toots. You are an anti-gay bigot. You're trying to deprive people of their rights for no other reason than the way we live our life bothers you. And you're barely being touched compared to the harm you are doing. BIGOT. B. I. G. O. T. BIGOT.
This nonsense kills people. It hypes up nuts like that guy who went on a stabbing spree at one of the local gay bars a few months ago. It makes people who are struggling with self-loathing over their gender or sexual identity turn to suicide.
There's blood on the hands of Bush and every one of those fascistic un-American hate mongers who voted for that bill this morning.
And then I can go above the 49th parallel and there is national gay marriage with widespread popular support. Why am I still here in a country that hates me.
