I'm already hearing the waffle words. The press is covering the "battle" and not the issues.

Looks like an easy confirmation to me. There will be a lot of carefully staged "fighting" in order to raise money on both sides. But in the end? He's in Roe's out. And one more vote and it all goes. Griswald? Hell, maybe Brown and Loving. Pretty much the entire 20th century.

Well, it's what America voted for. There was nothing stealth about Bush in his second term.

The administration's new tax plan is such a major disaster it's not even funny. Limit deductions companies can take for providing insurance? Oh great, cause they need more encouragement to pass on the cost or just not offer it. Repeal the deductability of state and local taxes, shifting even more of the burden of taxes to the blue states even though we already heavily subsidize the confederacy. Limit the mortgage interest deduction, which would stick it to everyone middle class, but since housing is more expensive in the blue states, it would again shift more of the tax burden to the blue. More tax breaks for the wealthy in the form of eliminating the minimum tax (which does need to be fixed) and exempting even more capital gains.

The only good thing is making the tax system marriage neutral. Couples pay or exempt twice what individuals do, which is the only fair way to do it. Every other plan I've seen either leaves the marriage tax or sticks it to singles.
