Media Check In
Oct. 12th, 2011 10:19 amSo right now I'm reading a pretty interesting book The Magicians by Lev Grossman. I guess the best way I could put it is it's a well written and dark Harry Potter. That doesn't do it justice, but it gets the idea across. Other than that, I've been tired and night and Nora has been fussy so I haven't been getting a lot of reading in. I tried the first of the Sookie Stackhouse books, but while I enjoy them, more than the series in fact, I don't find them a compelling read that drags me in.
In TV stuff, we're watching our usual reality tv: Top Chef Just Desserts and Project Runway. Looking forward to the real Top Chef coming back in a few weeks, but the Desserts hasn't been horrible like the first season. Far less drama. We've kind of ground to a halt on some of the other things we were watching. We were catching the original Upstairs Downstairs, but hit a very depressing episode and just really wanted a break. We watched the quite decent recent Jane Eyre movie. It was my first encounter with the piece, I'm an odd duck for an English major, specialized in medieval and pre-medieval, and really avoided 19th century novel like the plague. We watched the first two of the new Lewis episodes on Mystery, but we're going to hoard the other two for a while. Also, we're now going through DS9, which we never watched back in the day because we preferred Babylon 5. (It's weird to remember days before a DVR when you actually had to make time to watch something when it was on.)
In new shows. We checked out Jurassic Snark um. Terra Nova. It wasn't even worth making fun of. I've heard it's incredibly expensive to produce and all I can say is "really?" I'm also watching Pan Am. It's not a great show, but I'm a sucker for a CGI 707. I'm really looking forward to The Walking Dead coming back, but Janna's not fond of Zombie Apocalypse so it'll be something I watch on my own.
In gaming, I'm feeling all over the place. I'm just not coming up with the time to get geared up to raid in EQ2, but they just changed the requirements for the pre-raid armor which will make it far easier to get. I really want to get back to gaming on a regular basis. It may sound odd, but it really improves my overall quality of life. I am less tense and generally happier.
