I'm just getting more and more depressed about the state of the US. The ludicrously vicious crackdowns on the occupy protestors are extremely distressing. By far over the top and just plain wrong. There's 20% unemployment, do they think people are just going to sit down and take that? The economy seems to be headed into a double dip so it's only going to get worse. And nevermind start to compromise, a dirty word, the Republicans response is to double down on the insanity. Cut taxes for the ludicrously rich and abolish the minimum wage and workplace safety? And the Republican base thinks they need to be even more extreme.

This is not the America I grew up understanding. It's not the one that drew my family here from abroad.

The only good news is Obama seems to have awoken from his torpor and both challenged the Republicans and started to do what he can with executive policies to deal with the reality that our system is just plain broken. But after the complete waste of his entire first term, is there much hope that he'll stay awake do something other than mark time in his second term?

In other news, I'm caught in another of those sniffly but not sick cycles. Nora seems to have caught it as well. It's an irritation, not much more. We haven't been up to much. Had Janna's parents over on Sunday. Had a decent if not exciting weekend.
