After the Galactic Gasbag announced he was never ever ever going to release the original versions of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Revenge Return of the Jedi, I predicted that as soon as he'd milked everyone for the Han not shooting first versions that he'd release a boxed set that required everyone to buy the new versions nobody wants and would include the real versions everyone does.

Well, they announced the release. It's coming in the fall.

Nice thing about Lucas is that he's entirely predictable.

Gah, he's such a tool. I swear, Lucasfilm DVD release policies are enough to justify piracy in and of themselves.

I remember they did the same thing with VHS. They did full screens and claimed they were never going to do letterbox. Then once they wore down people who wanted letterbox, getting them to buy the full screen because there weren't going to be letterboxes, they suddenly changed their mind.

There must be people with dozens of versions of the same movies.

The only versions we have are the originals in a laser disc boxed set. :)

Looking at making room for the living room I think my husband is going to have all the laser discs burned onto DVDs.
