Wonderful Weekend

Well, our weekend was really quite nice. I made fresh salsa and steak fajitas on friday. I love fresh salsa, it was just tomato, jalapeno, green onion, and a little hot sauce and lime juice. But it's just so good. And for once, the pepper and onion came out right for the fajitas. Anyway, it was an awfully nice evening.
Saturday was my Ikea trip. I managed to get our new Malm bed with a minimum of hassle. I actually found doing a purchase not shop thing at Ikea kind of easy. I had a very nice time listening to Eve podcasts on the way up as well. Our culinary adventures that evening consisted of a nice pizza. I'm hopeful about our new bed. It seems a lot better constructed than the one we are getting rid of. I do feel terrible about the old one though. It was actually the first and only bed we've had. We slept on the floor for a decade--even owned our own home before we actually got a bed. It's kind of nostalgic because we have disassembled the old bed and are sleeping with the futon on the floor.
Actually the disposal of the old bed was funny. I put it in the Fit and headed to the transfer station. You have to pay to dispose of things so I stop at the booth and tell the woman there I have a bed in the car. And she looks at me and asks what size and I reply queen. And she just looks perplexed and asks "how much of it?" And I say "um the whole bed, head board, foot board, and two sideboards and a center? And she looks dumbfounded points at the Fit and says "where?!" I laughed and told her that's why they called it the Fit. And yeah, I guess it would be impossible in most other hatchbacks, but the passenger front seat folds flat so you can do things like move an entire bed without having to tie the hatch down.
Yesterday was our displaced Valentine's day. Every year Janna makes a big elaborate and "interesting" meal. It was fabulous. She made some nice proscuito and pear appetizers, then an absolutely incredible beet & gorgonzola salad, and then some wonderful ricotta gnocci in a rosemary brown butter. I actually have never had gnocci before, which is somewhat embarrassing. They were delicious and from what I understand about gnocci, very well produced. And she matched it all to a nice tuscan wine. And Nora, who'd been a little crabcake for most of the weekend, was wonderfully calm for the meal so we could enjoy it. Afterwards we watched Better than Chocolate.
